Behind the Scenes: What Couples Don’t Realize About Wedding Planning
What is something most people don't know about being a wedding planner?
One thing most people don’t realize is how much of the job happens behind the scenes long before the wedding day. Wedding planners aren’t just coordinating timelines, we’re managing logistics, contracts, vendor communication, family dynamics, and contingency plans months in advance. By the time the wedding day arrives, we’ve usually solved dozens of potential issues that the couple will never even know existed, which is exactly the goal.
The Most Rewarding Part of Being a Wedding Planner
What is the most rewarding part of your job as a wedding planner?
The most rewarding moment is seeing a couple truly present and enjoying their wedding day. Weddings go by incredibly fast, and when a couple can relax, spend time with their loved ones, and take it all in without worrying about logistics, that’s when I know we’ve done our job well.
Common Regrets Couples Have About Hiring a Planner
Why would someone regret hiring a wedding planner?
Honestly, most couples say they regret not hiring one sooner. The only time someone might regret it is if expectations aren’t aligned or if they hire someone who isn’t the right fit for their style or level of service. Planning a wedding is deeply personal, so finding a planner whose approach and communication style matches yours makes a big difference.
Northern California Wedding Planner Venue Favorites
What is one of your favorite wedding venues in Northern California and why?
Northern California has so many incredible venues, but I’m always drawn to spaces that really highlight the natural beauty of the region. Venues that combine indoor and outdoor spaces, great light, and thoughtful architecture make such a difference in the guest experience. Wine country venues, like The Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, are especially beautiful because they create a relaxed but elevated atmosphere that feels quintessentially Northern California. Separately, I love venues like Kohl Mansion in Burlingame because of its ease of access to SFO, its historical building nature, and ability to use the space in different ways.
Funny and Memorable Wedding Day Story
Can you share a funny story from a wedding day?
One wedding day we had a ring bearer who decided halfway down the aisle that the job wasn’t for him. He sat down in the middle of the aisle and refused to move while the entire ceremony had to take place. The guests loved it and it ended up being one of the most memorable and adorable moments of the ceremony.
What Makes Stratford & Pearl Unique
What makes Stratford & Pearl unique?
At Stratford & Pearl, our approach is very personalized. We focus on thoughtful design, seamless logistics, and creating an experience that truly reflects each couple. Every wedding is different, so rather than following a formula, we build the plan around the couple’s priorities, aesthetic, and guest experience. Our goal is to make the process feel organized, collaborative, and enjoyable from start to finish.
Wedding Budget Advice
How do you help engaged couples prioritize where to allocate their wedding budget?
I always encourage couples to start by identifying the two or three things that matter most to them… whether that’s the venue, food and wine, entertainment, or overall design. Once those priorities are clear, we can allocate the budget in a way that supports those areas while still maintaining balance across the rest of the event. It’s really about aligning spending with what will create the most meaningful experience for the couple and their guests.

Final Thoughts on Planning a Memorable Wedding
Anything else you'd like to add?
Weddings are such a unique moment in people’s lives… there are very few occasions where all of your favorite people are in one place celebrating together. While planning details are important, I always encourage couples to focus on the feeling they want their wedding to create. When that’s the starting point, everything else tends to fall into place.
This year is also an exciting one for Stratford & Pearl as we’re working behind the scenes on a brand refresh that will better reflect the direction of our work and the experience we create for our couples. I’m really looking forward to sharing that later this year!
